The Origin: Jim Rohn's Genius Approach
Jim Rohn, one of the greatest personal development speakers of all time, discovered a simple yet brilliant way to grow his company and spread his message: giving free talks to groups that were already assembled.
An already assembled group is one where you show up as the speaker, but you're not responsible for promoting the event. Jim spoke at Rotary Clubs, company meetings, and associations β€” anywhere there were people hungry for success principles.
At the end of his talks, he or his trainers would offer one of Jim's audio programs or seminars. It was authentic, value-driven selling at its best.
How Tony Robbins Got His Start
One of Jim Rohn's young trainers was none other than Tony Robbins.
From ages 17 to 21, Tony spoke for Jim Rohn and delivered an estimated 2,000 speeches! By the time he was 22, Tony had already given more speeches than most professional speakers give in a lifetime.
When Tony launched his own company, he simply brought the Jim Rohn Speaker Model with him. Over the years, he built his empire using this system β€” hiring hundreds of speakers to go into companies, speak at sales meetings, and promote his seminars and firewalk events.
My Experience with the Model

From 1996 to 1998, I ran the Jim Rohn Speaker Model for Tony Robbins. During that time, I gave around 800 talks promoting Tony's events.

Then, in 1999, I launched my own company β€” and I continued using this exact same model. My team and I have now delivered more than 3,000 free talks, generating millions of dollars in coaching sales.
How the Model Works
The Jim Rohn Speaker Model is simple and incredibly effective:

Find Already Assembled Groups.
These could be companies, churches, associations, chambers of commerce, networking groups, or any organization that meets regularly.

Give a Free Talk.
Deliver 20–60 minutes of genuine value. Teach something practical, inspiring, and directly related to your area of expertise.

Make an Offer at the End.
You can offer one of your paid programs or a free coaching session. The latter often works best, as it gets people into conversation with you.

Close Coaching Clients.
After your free sessions, many participants naturally become paying clients because they've already experienced your expertise and connected with your message.

It's not uncommon to generate 1–10 new coaching sessions per talk.
Before the presentation, always check with the meeting organizer and let them know you plan to make an offer at the end. Transparency builds trust and ensures alignment.
Proof the Model Still Works Today
Last year, I shared this model with one of my coaching clients. At the time, he was earning less than $5,000 per month from his coaching business.
